It was a thoroughly enjoyable test drive—the time goes too quickly in this entirely pleasant boat. If you’re looking for a sub eight-metre vessel, you have to look at Bayliner’s 245 Cruiser.
Five-metre boats don’t get any better than this. If you option carpet on the deck, the Evolution 500 gets full marks
As Doug has been using one for the last two years, I’ll let him sum up the Bayliner Discovery 288. “For two, it’s perfect and for four, it’s fine. There’s plenty of room. It’s a great size boat.”
The Fjord 40 has great on-water presence. This boat was moored side-on, so that as we approached we could see a large plane of metallic-finished fibreglass, which dominated the seascape.
The afternoon we spent on Sydney Harbour was in windy but reasonable weather. The Volvos delivered enough power to push the 32 open to a speed of 35 knots with a bit of grunt left to spare.
I was lucky enough to take the 3080 on a short offshore run from Sydney Heads, where she settled down to a comfortable cruise speed that would get you to distant fishing spots in good time.
