Designed by the late Prof Peter Joubert and solidly built by Rod Levy in 1968, the Joubert Wombat 42 class 'Widgeon' is an iconic Melbourne yacht that has delivered good racing results offshore, including two races to Fiji and three Melbourne-Hobarts along with a successful local club racing history on Port Phillip for over 50 years. She remains in excellent condition, structurally very sound and dry.
Wheel steered, masthead rigged and with a deep, safe cockpit, this is a yacht to take you anywhere. The sail wardrobe comprises 2 mainsails, 4 genoas, 3 spinnakers, a staysail and storm tri-sail. She is powered by a Perkins 4-108 shaft drive marine diesel in great running order. Her roomy interior sleeps up to eight with a dinette table, an enclosed toilet, a good galley with a fridge and a good sized chart table with navigators seat. There's plenty of headroom throughout this spacious yacht.
Solidly constructed in fibreglass sheathed marine plywood with properly engineered solid hardwood ribs, stringers and frames, she is fast and seaworthy. Her topsides were repainted about 5 years ago. The generous volume of her hull would lend itself to a comfortable cruising conversion or she can continue to club race as she is. Widgeon is an Australian Registered vessel.
