Ideal racing conditions greeted more than 300 swimmers at yesterday’s Fujifilm Whitehaven Beach Swim on Whitsunday Island yesterday.

The ocean swim, organised by Hamilton Island, is the only sporting event permitted to be held on the iconic Whitehaven Beach.

New Zealand women’s open water champion Cara Baker took the win in the women’s division in a sprint to the finish lines with hundredths of a second separating her from 18-year old Eliza Smith from Newcastle.

Madam Butterfly, Susie O’Neill, had a convincing win in her age-group category of the 2km swim
